Spending just a short amount of time (5-10 minutes) stretching can help calm the mind, providing a mental break and giving your body a chance to recharge and become more productive.
Stretching, in its most basic form, is a natural and automatic action. You might notice that if you have been sitting in a particular position for a long time, you stretch unconsciously. It feels good! In addition to that good feeling, with my stretching program doing it consistently will produce large gains in flexibility and joint movement and prevent muscle cramping and down-the-road chronic injuries.
Sun Salutations are a series of movements that flow with the breath, you can perform Sun Salutations in a chair and do these while sitting at your desk at work, flying in an airplane or at home in your living room. Sun Salutations strengthens your heart, improves circulation, lengthens and strengthens every major muscle in your body, strengthens the right and left side of your brain and improves your posture.
Begin with your palms together, hands to heart. Sittig upright in the chair, softly close your eyes, notice your heart beat, breathe in and out through your nostrils for a few breathes (connecting with your heart beat). Gently open your eyes.
Inhale and bring your left knee up, hands just below the knee cap or behind the knee. Face towards sky, shoulders back and down.
Inhale and reach both hands up toward the sky, lifting your face up toward the sky.
Exhale and come forward from your hips, bring your toes, relaxing your head down.
